Today we will read Five Little Pumpkins and play instruments to Halloween Classics! Remember to wear a costume!
Today at Jamboree-by-the-Sea we sang songs, danced, and explored objects all around the color red. Miss Kate brought books over from Manchester-by-the-Sea Public Library and children and parents explored books and had time to read together.
We sang "do you see the color red somewhere in this room?" and the children found red candles, the red exit sign, a small portion of red on a painting, red on a stroller, red on a diaper bag, and red on their own clothing.
I prepared a bag of items of varied textures, materials, and sizes and each child had an opportunity to touch, squeeze, explore, and apply the Science Process skill of observation. The one thing in common was that each item is red. The egg shaker is smooth and makes sound. The yarn is soft and squishy. The leaf if dry, brittle, and crackles. The box was hard, smooth in some parts and rough on other parts. Lots of questions! Is it a camera? Is it a phone? Is it a pencil box? It's a radio. Specifically, it is the radio that I listened to during the Blizzard of '78, fingers crossed waiting to hear that school was cancelled for another day.
Maybe I should donate that camera to the Manchester Historical Museum!
This afternoon I dropped off crayons and journals for Susie to give out at Sweet Dreams Story Makers. If you aren't registered please send an RSVP before 4:30pm on 10/20 so we are sure to have materials for every child that attends.
Tomorrow, Thursday 10/20, is the first day of the new Jamboree-by-the-Sea. The color of the day is RED. It may be in the 80s today, but tomorrow it will be cloudy and in the 60s. I am glad it is going to cool down a bit since my only red shirt is a cable knit sweater!
Please RSVP so we will know how many people to expect. Miss Kate from the Manchester Library is selecting a stack of books and I am choosing music for singing and instrument playing. Hope to see you there!
I will be there. C'mon down!
