10/29/2015 0 Comments Why so many teal pumpkins?Have you heard about the Teal Pumpkin Project™? Have you seen teal pumpkins around town? If you see a teal pumpkin on a porch it means that a non-food treat is available for trick-or-treaters! Per the website, it was "Launched as a national campaign by Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) in 2014, the Teal Pumpkin Project™ raises awareness of food allergies and promotes inclusion of all trick-or-treaters throughout the Halloween season." It is estimated that 15 million Americans have food allergies and that 1 in every 13 children has a food allergy. I promised several parents that I would find out more and provide a list of nut-free/wheat free candy, but the goal is to provide non-food treats. Here is a link to non-food treats. Trick or Treat in Hamilton-Wenham is on 10/31 from 5pm-8pm. The Hamilton-Wenham Police Department shared a blog post on Wicked Local with Halloween Safety Tips. and it is in Manchester starts at 5pm and some road will be closed until 9pm for safety reasons. Here is a link for detailed information on road closures. Finally, here is a great article put out by the National Association for the Education of Young Children called What's Too Scary? ![]() If you end up with too much candy, the Wenham Museum is hosting a Switch Witch. You can turn in your candy at the museum for a discount 10% discount (15% for members) in the museum shop. Have a Happy and Safe Trick Or Treat! #TealPumpkinProject 10/16/2015 0 Comments Fun today at M Is For Museum!Usually we meet the second Friday of each month at 10:30am. This month, it was the third Friday because of the three day weekend last week. In November we are back on schedule, on 11/13. Today the theme was Shapes & Colors of Fall!
This group will be in Beverly at the McKeown School and it is run by a neighboring CFCE that serves Beverly, Danvers, Peabody, Boxford, Topsfield and Middleton. Check it out! You can't sign up for this with me. You must sign up at the link on the flyer. Every town and city in the Commonwealth has a CFCE that offers many programs for families and children. You can also find statewide events at www.BrainBuildingInProgress.org.
Self-confidence rises out of a sense of achievement. Children become self-confident when they show competence in an area, whether it be cutting with scissors or finally walking across the room. Words of praise and encouragement help to raise self-esteem, but self-confidence comes from the moments that a child suddenly realizes, "I can do it!" Here is a list of books to read with your children that are great for raising self-confidence awareness.
We had a great time on Monday at Music, Books, and More at the Memorial School in Manchester. We read Hands Can by Cheryl Hudson, we Somewhere Over The Rainbow and The Alphabet Song (both by special request), recited poems, and we made fun art!
First, the children traced their own hands and then practiced cutting out the shape. We then decorated them using tissue paper, glue, crayons and markers. Scroll to the end of this post to see the original art. By the way, the group is open to all. It is in Manchester, but families from Hamilton-Wenham are welcome to attend. Friends from other towns, too. It is open to all. We meet on Mondays at 1:45pm. Send me a note if you want to join. Email Lisa at e.cheney@hwschools.net |
